We All End Up Improving Someone For Another Person

Whether you are a man or a woman, the sad truth is, the relationship you pegged your hopes on, the one that got away, the one you swore you would change because you, you are worth it, that person is now with someone else, and probably a better version of themselves than they were with you.

This is not because you were bad for each other. Maybe your love didn’t last, but the evidence of change means that you were good for each other, good enough to allow personal growth. If you were toxic, bad people, that would not be possible in any way, shape or form.

Sometimes the person you love most in the world and believe is your happily ever after turns out to be anything but. The time you spent with them is still meaningful, and you keep thinking that eventually they will change but they don’t and you have to let them go. But the lessons they learned whilst they were with you stay. He actually closes the toothpaste tube now. She’s more attentive about his day. He keeps the house cleaner. She lets things go more easily. Sometimes the exact qualities that could have made their relationship with you work, are now things that they pay more attention to, hone for someone else.

People are ever changing. They grow every day, to the point that the person you know now may not be the person you met this morning. And people aren’t projects. No one can fix someone. We can all only fix ourselves. But we can improve each other.

The good news is, you too have been improved by someone for someone more deserving of you. You have learned and grown from each of your relationships till you are the person you are today. You are kinder, better and stronger for the people you have loved. And that, that makes all the difference.
