This Is What It Feels Like When You’re Estranged From Your Sibling

When this happens, you’re at a loss for words. You can’t believe that it’s happening. It feels like a bad dream that you want to end.

Picture growing up with them. They might be a few years younger than you, but still you looked up to them, have cherished memories with and adored this person. Then when they stop speaking to you, you feel like a part of your heart is truly gone.

You will always worry about them and hope that they are okay wherever they are, despite the fact that they are not around. You love them with all of your heart, because at the end of the day that is your sibling, your flesh and blood. You would do everything in your power to protect them, but now you can’t. You feel helpless and hope that when they are ready and willing, there will be a time when they will maybe want to reach out and start to mend things with you.

However, things between the two of you will never be the same. Emotional damage has already been done, and you have to find a way to heal. It will always hurt, no matter how much time passes. You will find some way to move forward and continue to live the best life you can.

With a part of your heart gone, sometimes your chosen family, your best friends, will step up and give you extra love in their own ways to help with your healing. Sometimes it will happen when all you want to do is fall apart.

After something like this happens to you, you’re still family. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been, whether it’s been three years or three months, you will still love them and miss them. But most of all, you just hope they are happy and healthy.

Sometimes that’s all you can do — hold out hope that they will come back into your life, and your heart will be whole again. It’s important to understand it might not happen instantly, but your love for them will always stay the same. This is what it feels like when you’re estranged from your sibling.
