Our relationship sailed smoothly from there on. Our fresh start gave me back the energy and exuberance I’d been without for so long.

“You know… if you were my wife, you wouldn’t even need to work. What real use is a sociology degree anyway?” Yeah, I brought up the idea of the m-word. I’m pretty traditional and wholly believe in the beautiful sanctity of marriage. I know we’re young, she was 21 but I knew she was someone I could see myself with for the rest of my life, so why not? The turnaround and newfound maturity in our relationship showed me that she obviously felt the same way.

My only worry was that she’d find someone else and leave me empty again. She assured me she wouldn’t, but naturally, a little bit of uncertainty stayed with me. I was determined to do everything differently to make her stay this time. I could tell she wasn’t one of those girls who wanted a pushover – she wanted a guy who could motivate, push, and control her, and keep her on her toes. She didn’t want the responsibility of holding the power in the relationship.
