It’s Time To Fall In Love With The Face In The Mirror

When you look into the mirror, what do you see? I hope you can see past all your mistakes, your regrets, and your flaws. I hope you can look into your own eyes and see that you are human, and being human is enough.

We’ve all been insecure and we’ve all been awful to ourselves at some point in our lives, but we need to stop this madness. It’s time to take a stand against self-loathing and truly fall in love with ourselves.

Self-love is self taught. Yes, you can read countless blog posts and articles like this one, but it’s more than that. You have to find the power within to expel all the negativity this world can inject into your brain.

For me, self-love has been an incredible journey of very high highs and rock bottom lows. My teenage years were filled with hatred for my body, my face, my voice, my hair, and pretty much my entire being. The people I surrounded myself with also were suffering with their own versions of self-hating hell.

Society tells us that these years are the years we aren’t suppose to love ourselves. That these years are the ones where we go through the most changes, so of course we are destined to hate every minute of it.

I don’t buy into that. I now see that society has a way to get us to hate ourselves. That’s not okay and you need to cast that idea out of your life, starting today.

Now, I get it, sometimes it’s so hard to be comfortable in your own skin. The thing is, why? Why do we feel that way? It’s taken a long time for me to really find an answer for that question.

I feel that way, because I have always been overweight and being overweight has always been something I’ve actively tried to changed. I’ve been on countless diets, worked out, and am now struggling to keep up with a vegan diet. The thing is, I now know that I have an unhealthy relationship with food and my new goal is to correct that.

Honestly, I’ve had an unhealthy relationship with myself throughout my whole life. Learning how to accept who I am and learn what kind of person I want to be has started to help me figure out how to love myself better.

I believe that the path to self love is a life long journey. We aren’t always going to look into that mirror and love what we see. We aren’t always going to feel like a ray of sunshine waiting to greet the world.

However, during those times when we don’t feel like our best selves, we have to remember that we are part of this world. We are all beautiful. We are all made of stardust. We are all human.

Self-love is a magical thing and I hope every person on this planet gets to experience it. The process is never-ending. There are always new things to discover about yourself.

Remember, you are special and people care about you. You need to care about yourself as well. You need to be your own hero. Your own savior. So, look at yourself in that mirror and say, I love you, baby!
