If Your Heart Could Speak, What Would It Say?

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

I think it’d speak of love.

Perhaps we’d hear from the bits of pieces that remained from love lost, formed again into something beautiful, into something that beats with purpose, with intention, with hope.

Perhaps it’d tell you, sweet soul, the pieces of your heart are not to be swept aside. They are not to be thrown into some closet, swept under the rug, tucked under the bed to collect dust. They are like Kintsugi, the Japanese art form where broken ceramics are gently put back together to make something new. The repairs are visible, and yet, the beauty of the metal makes them beautiful. Like you.

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

I think it’d speak of hope.

Too often we forget that hope is held in the crevices of our heart. It’s in the moment of quickened pulses, of tiny bits of awe and wonder, and in the grand gestures of becoming and understanding. We see hope in the eyes of our kids, our spouses, in the people that we love. Sometimes it’s just a sparkle, other times a whisper, but the constant pulsing to strive to be better and brighter – that’s our song of hope.

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

I think it would tell you, please be good to me.

Carry me gently through your days. Recognize when someone hurts me, and learn that it’s ok to not go back, that the broken pieces will guide you to a happier, healthier place. I think it would say, listen to me. I’ll tell you what we need, what we want, what will be good for you. I think it would say that I’m the only heart you’ve got, and to treat me with love and care.

Listen to the beats. They’ll guide you.
