3 Reasons Breakdancing Is The Best Sport In The World (And Why You Need To Start)

1. It’s free

The original B-boys from the Bronx did not have a job or any money so they went out to a public basketball court with a boombox, some lino and danced to music in order to kill time. With dance, all you need is a little bit of space and the willingness to try some moves (music is optional).

I know what you are thinking: “Every sport is free!”

Not necessarily.

If you want to play basketball, you obviously need a basketball. You also need a court to play on and it might be filled or there might not be one near you. If you want to play football, you need a football, a field and a goal. But with dance, (also long as you’re not going to kick anyone while doing moves) you’re free to dance anywhere.

2. Individualisation

Each dance, each routine and each dancer is like a snowflake — they’re all different. Each dancer has their own style that no one else in the world has. Each routine is different even if it is made to the same song. You can look at all the best and most talked about dancers and you will find that they’re all different and unique.

The guys that I train with can do all the flips and tricks and stuff that make you go “WTF,” but their floor work (go and YouTube “break-dance floor work”) is not exactly good, where I am more average at all aspects of break-dance.

With other sports, it is just the same thing over and over until someone loses. In tennis, they hit the ball back and forth until someone misses and then they start again. In basketball, someone tries to get the ball in the hoop and then they go to the other end and the other team tries. With dance, it’s different every time (watch some break battle, you’ll see what I mean).

3. It is the best outlet from pain, anger and problems

It does not matter how bad my week was or how bad I feel. When I am dancing, nothing else in the world is happening. There no arguments with family or friends, there are no bad scores on assignments and there is no pain. It is just me and the music. It is a stress reliever because I can take all that pain and problems and put it into an emotion-filled routine that actually means something to me.

On the other hand, there is no greater feeling than successfully completing a move that you have been trying to get for months and then looking back on all the progress that you have made.

With sports, they are normally the cause of anger and problems. If your team loses, you feel anger at the team for doing so badly which causes you to take that anger out on other people.

I would honestly advise anyone to at least try break or street dance once. It is difficult but if it was easy, everyone would do it.
